Chapter 173 -
Chapter 173 -
The night after the wedding, the Fu household finally settled into a rare quiet, but Bai Ming’s room still held a soft, lingering warmth.
Lantern light glowed gently in the corners, casting a golden sheen across the wooden furniture, while the faint sound of distant laughter from the courtyard drifted in now and then, like echoes of a celebration that refused to fully fade.
Bai Ming had just finished changing out of her wedding attire when Fu Li and Fu Fei stepped into the room.
Both women leaned casually near the table, still carrying the relaxed amusement of everything that had unfolded earlier.
Fu Li crossed her arms lightly, shaking her head as she spoke.
"I still cannot believe tonight actually ended like this."
Fu Fei’s lips curved into a faint, knowing smirk.
"And without a single person successfully ruining it."
Bai Ming let out a small breath of laughter as she sat down beside the bed, smoothing the fabric of her sleeve.
"That is because too many people were involved in stopping them," she replied softly.
Before the conversation could continue, gentle footsteps approached from the doorway.
Fu Qin and Fu Lin stepped inside.
The moment Bai Ming saw them, her expression softened immediately.
"Mama!"
Fu Lin called out first, already moving forward with quick steps.
Fu Qin followed behind a little more calmly, though his eyes carried the same warmth.
"Mama," he greeted quietly.
Bai Ming stood without hesitation and opened her arms, pulling both children into a gentle embrace.
Fu Li and Fu Fei, who had been watching from the side, did not interrupt this time. Their earlier teasing quieted as they observed the moment with subtle smiles.
After a moment, Fu Lin tilted his head up and looked at Bai Ming.
"Mama..."
Bai Ming hummed softly in response, gently stroking his hair.
Fu Qin hesitated briefly before speaking.
"Mama, we have a question."
Bai Ming tilted her head slightly, her tone patient.
"What is it?"
The twins exchanged a quick glance before looking back at her together.
Fu Lin spoke first.
"What do we call Uncle Han Fuji now?"
For a brief moment, silence settled in the room.
Fu Li immediately raised a brow.
"That is what you are worried about right now?"
Fu Qin nodded seriously, as if the matter truly required deep thought.
"He is not our real father."
Fu Lin added quickly, as though clarifying an important fact.
"But he is still our new papa."
Fu Fei let out a soft sigh, half amused and half resigned.
"So this is the real problem of the night."
Bai Ming couldn’t help but smile faintly as she listened to them argue so earnestly over something so simple.
Fu Lin continued, still visibly confused.
"We used to know what to call people before... but now everything is different."
Fu Qin nodded in agreement.
"He married Mama, so he is important. But he is not exactly in father’s position."
Fu Li crossed her arms again, shaking her head slightly.
"Children these days think too deeply about unnecessary things."
Fu Fei let out a quiet chuckle beside her.
Fu Lin looked up once more, determination written across his face.
"So what should we call him?"
Before Bai Ming could respond, the door creaked open again.
Han Fuji stepped inside.
He paused almost immediately the moment he heard his name being discussed.
"...Why do I feel like I walked into something dangerous again?"
Fu Lin’s face lit up instantly.
"New papa!"
Fu Qin followed right after him.
"New papa!"
Both children rushed forward at once.
Han Fuji barely had time to react before Fu Lin hugged his leg tightly, nearly stopping him in place.
"Wait—slow down, slow down," he said quickly, trying not to lose his balance.
Fu Qin looked up at him with an unusually serious expression.
"We have a question for you."
Han Fuji blinked once.
"That already sounds like trouble."
Fu Lin didn’t hesitate at all.
"What should we call you now?"
Han Fuji went quiet for a moment, clearly caught off guard.
Then he slowly turned his head and looked toward Bai Ming.
After that, his gaze shifted to Fu Li and Fu Fei.
Finally, he looked back down at the twins.
"...You are asking me?"
Fu Qin nodded.
"You are the new papa."
Fu Lin added quickly.
"But not father-father."
Fu Li couldn’t hold back a laugh at that point.
"So even he is confused now."
Fu Fei shook her head lightly, smiling.
Han Fuji scratched the back of his neck, clearly at a loss.
"This is the first time I have ever been promoted and demoted in the same night."
Fu Lin tilted his head.
"So?"
Han Fuji let out a long sigh.
"Just call me whatever you want... as long as it is not ’old uncle’ or something tragic like that."
Fu Qin thought for a moment.
Fu Lin’s eyes suddenly brightened.
"Then we will call you Papa Fuji!"
Han Fuji paused.
"...That is acceptable."
Fu Li let out a soft laugh.
"At least he survived the naming trial."
Fu Fei nodded in agreement.
"For now."
Bai Ming shook her head lightly, a small smile lingering on her lips as she watched them all.
Fu Li and Fu Fei exchanged a quick glance the moment the room finally settled again.
A knowing, slightly mischievous look passed between them, as if they had silently reached the same conclusion without needing to speak it aloud.
Fu Li straightened first, brushing her sleeves lightly as she spoke in a casual tone.
"Alright," she said, pushing herself away from the table. "We should leave now."
Fu Fei nodded once in agreement.
"Mm. We have already disturbed them enough."
Fu Qin blinked in confusion.
"Disturbed who?"
Fu Lin tilted her head as well, clearly not fully understanding the situation.
"But we still want to stay with Mama."
Fu Li walked over and crouched slightly in front of them so she could meet their eyes properly.
"Your Mama is fine," she said gently, though her tone still carried a hint of amusement. "She also needs some rest."
Fu Fei added with a faint, calm smile,
"And Papa Fuji is here."
At that name, Fu Lin immediately turned her head again toward Han Fuji.
"New papa is staying?"
Han Fuji pointed at himself slowly, as if still processing the situation.
"Why do I feel like I am being assigned here without consent?"
Fu Qin looked at him very seriously.
"You are part of the family now."
Fu Li let out a soft chuckle.
"Exactly. So behave."
Fu Fei stepped forward and gently lifted Fu Lin into her arms, supporting her securely.
Fu Li did the same with Fu Qin a moment later, effortlessly pulling him up despite his brief resistance.
Both children immediately reacted.
"We are not sleepy!"
"I still want to talk to Mama!"
Fu Li adjusted Fu Qin slightly so he would be comfortable.
"You can talk tomorrow," she said calmly.
Fu Fei nodded in agreement.
"Tonight is for adults."
Fu Lin turned in Fu Fei’s arms immediately, still unwilling to accept it.
"But why?"
Fu Li’s lips curved faintly into a teasing smile.
"Because newlyweds need privacy."
For a second, the room went completely silent.
Fu Qin blinked once.
Then slowly repeated, as if testing the word in his mind,
"Privacy?"
Fu Lin’s eyes widened slightly as though he had just discovered something extremely important.
"...Oh."
Fu Li immediately turned her face away slightly, clearly trying to suppress her laughter.
Fu Fei coughed softly into her fist, also visibly amused.
Han Fuji narrowed his eyes a little.
"Why does that ’oh’ sound like it is going in a dangerous direction?"
Fu Qin turned his gaze toward Bai Ming.
"Mama, are you going to sleep early?"
Bai Ming paused for a moment, then gave a gentle nod.
"Yes."
Fu Lin nodded slowly as well, now much calmer.
"Then we should go."
Fu Qin followed immediately.
"We will come back tomorrow."
Fu Li shifted them slightly in her arms to secure their balance.
"Good. Decision made."
Fu Fei added lightly as she turned toward the door,
"And no more questions about naming tonight."
Fu Lin raised a small hand in farewell.
"Goodnight Mama!"
Fu Qin followed immediately.
"Goodnight Mama. Goodnight Papa Fuji."
Han Fuji lifted a hand lazily in response.
"Goodnight... small interrogators."
Fu Li glanced over her shoulder with a faint smirk.
"Try not to argue all night."
Fu Fei gave one last knowing look toward the room before stepping out.
Then both women left, carrying the twins with them as the door closed softly behind.
The sound clicked gently into place.
And just like that—
the room fell completely quiet.
For the first time since the chaos of the evening had begun, there was no arguing, no questioning, no interruptions.
Only Bai Ming and Han Fuji remained.
Han Fuji stood still for a moment, then slowly exhaled as if finally releasing tension he had been holding in.
"...Finally."
He turned his head toward Bai Ming.
"You have a very noisy family."
Bai Ming lifted a brow slightly, her expression calm but faintly teasing.
"And you married into it."
That made him pause.
For a brief second, he said nothing.
Then he stepped a little closer, the earlier teasing returning faintly to his expression.
"Worth it," he replied simply.
