Chapter 272 The Mysterious Evacuation
Chapter 272 The Mysterious Evacuation
"Package confirmed on its way, welcome home!"
A familiar and reassuring voice rang in my ears.
Before Boss Zhao could recover from the shock he had just experienced, he felt the light and shadows in front of him shake violently.
The originally thick smoke and those eerie red lights instantly distorted and blurred.
What followed was a strong feeling of dizziness.
When he opened his eyes again, the pungent smell of gunpowder had disappeared.
Instead, there was a cacophony of voices. He rubbed his eyes hard and found himself standing in the central square outside the Zero Dam teleportation gate.
"Really? The evacuation was successful?" Boss Zhao looked down at his hands and then touched the bag on his back. It was heavy, and the three clocks inside were still there.
Just as Boss Zhao was about to look for Han Che and Xiao Bai, a loud argument came from not far away.
Three bewildered men stood around the light screen of the still-open portal.
These three people were completely naked, without even the most basic bulletproof vests or tactical helmets.
"What's going on here? How did I get here?" The leader's face was ashen, his eyes wide open, and he was shouting.
"I don't know, did it automatically evacuate because it was too close to the evacuation point?" A companion next to him also looked confused.
"Impossible! I remember it clearly, I was still ten or twenty meters away from the evacuation point! I was clearly lying on that small hill with my gun at the time!" the third person shouted at the top of his lungs.
The leader suddenly stopped what he was doing, staring intently at his companion's body, then looked down at himself.
"Wait a minute! Where's your equipment? Where did it all go?"
Upon hearing this, the other two were also stunned. They looked at each other, and cold sweat instantly poured down their backs.
"My gear! My gear is gone!" one of them suddenly screamed.
A terrifying and illogical thought flashed through his mind. His face turned deathly pale as he looked at his companions and stammered, "We...we didn't manage to evacuate. We were killed inside!"
This guess came like a bolt from the blue, leaving the three of them stunned and frozen in place, staring at their own hands, unable to accept the reality for a moment.
"How is this possible! I was just firing! My bullets were going straight into the smoke!" The leader grabbed his hair, veins bulging on his forehead.
"Yeah! I was firing at the smoke grenades too, and I didn't see a single person in front of me. How could anyone hit me? How could I have died like that?" Another person chimed in, his voice full of grievance and disbelief.
"No, something's definitely wrong!" The third person yelled at the top of his lungs, "Where are the officials? Come out and do something! There's a bug in this danger zone! We were holding our ground perfectly fine outside, so why are they saying we're dead? We were about to win!"
The three people's commotion quickly attracted the attention of others in the square, but the chaos did not last long.
A short while later, a group of government officials dressed in black uniforms and with stern expressions walked through the crowd.
Without wasting any words, they subdued the three people who were still shouting and forcibly dragged them away from the square.
Boss Zhao stood not far away watching this scene, but because of the noise around him, he couldn't hear it very clearly.
However, after listening to the fragmented chatter and seeing the three people's exasperated expressions, Boss Zhao had a general idea of what was going on.
After turning his gaze away, Boss Zhao hurriedly searched through the crowd.
Soon, he saw Han Che on the other side of the portal.
Han Che carefully placed Xiaobai on the ground. After returning to the real world, all the serious injuries Xiaobai had suffered inside, including the deep gunshot wounds to her limbs and abdomen, had completely disappeared, and her body had recovered perfectly.
Xiao Bai's eyelashes trembled slightly a few times, and then she slowly opened her eyes.
Her eyes were still a little dazed when she regained consciousness. When she saw Han Che looking down at her, Xiao Bai was stunned, and memories of the time before she fainted flooded her mind.
She didn't even have time to check her own body, struggling anxiously to sit up, her first words being a barrage of questions: "Han Che? How is he? Boss Zhao, he..."
"Boss Zhao is fine." Han Che interrupted her directly, his voice sounding very calm.
As he spoke, Han Che raised his hand and pointed behind him with his thumb.
Xiao Bai looked in the direction he was pointing. There stood Boss Zhao a few steps away, clutching the large backpack containing the clock tightly with both hands, looking at them with concern.
"Great, great..." Xiaobai's tense body instantly went limp.
She lay back down on the ground, looked up at the sky, and let out a long breath.
Confirming that Boss Zhao was safe and had successfully evacuated was of great significance to her. It meant that her club had room to maneuver in the face of the public relations crisis.
Once the strength that had been supporting her disappeared, a strong sense of exhaustion immediately swept over her entire body.
Xiao Bai lay quietly on the ground, turned his head, and looked up at Han Che's face. He asked with some curiosity, "In the end, you were the one who led us out? In that situation... how did you manage to do it? There were three guns pointed so tightly outside, there wasn't even a blind spot."
There was no doubt in her tone, but rather admiration.
To be able to bring two burdens out alive in a situation where death was certain is no small feat, and is something that no ordinary person could accomplish.
"Ugh, how can I do that?" Han Che raised his hand somewhat embarrassedly and scratched the back of his head.
"I just waited for the right moment to throw two smoke grenades, and then blindfolded myself and charged into the extraction point."
"Those three guys looked fierce, but their marksmanship was terrible. They just sprayed wildly through the smoke and didn't hit us once."
"To be honest, it wasn't difficult at all; it was all thanks to good luck."
"Really?" Xiaobai couldn't help but chuckle.
"Of course it's true, you can ask Boss Zhao if you don't believe me," Han Che explained.
Upon hearing this, Xiaobai turned his questioning gaze to Boss Zhao standing to the side.
Startled by the two men's stares, Boss Zhao froze for a moment. He opened his mouth, but for a moment he really didn't know what to say.
"Uh...it seems that's true." Boss Zhao rubbed his nose hesitantly.
"I was running straight ahead through the smoke grenades with my head down, and I made it to the evacuation point."
When Xiao Bai saw that Boss Zhao said the same thing, he stopped asking questions and simply assumed that he had gotten lucky.
Meanwhile, Boss Zhao, connecting the pair of red eyes he had seen in the smoke at the evacuation point with Han Che, couldn't help but shudder.
